Battery Testing as Seasons Change

Extreme temperatures can bring the life of a weak battery to an end. Before the harsh winter begins (or before summer cranks up) be sure to run a routine test on your battery. While a battery will give many signs it's life is short, sometimes it just runs out of power. You can test this at home as the seasons turn for the worse.

Purchase a voltmeter, which is the easiest means of testing your battery at home. Following easy instructions not unlike jumping a dead battery in a parking lot, you'll know right away the strength of your battery. The voltmeter will show you if your battery is below 50% or 12.2+ circuit strength. At or below these numbers and you should replace. Anything above, and your battery should last through the season.
